The southeastern side of Ponorogo, precisely in Tumpuk Village, Sawoo District, has rocks that can be used as raw materials for making agate. This proves that the beautiful and diverse landscape of Ponorogo Regency actually has very rich natural potential.
The agate craft that was booming 10 years ago, apparently still exists in this village. Hariyanto, a native agate craftsman from Tumpuk Village, admitted that the raw materials for agate in the Sawoo area are indeed very abundant and of high quality, especially raw materials for stones with pictures.
“I have been working on agate crafts since 2015. In the past, I worked on various types of stones, but now I focus more on making stones with pictures,” he said on Tuesday (21/01/2025).

Heri has found various stones with unique motifs. This makes him continue to persist in pursuing this craft.
“Starting from stones with wayang images, numbers, letters, phrases, plants, buildings to figures,” he said.
This middle-aged man explained that to get these images, a high level of imagination is needed. The more similar the motifs found, the higher the price tag.
“Initially we look for them in the river, then we choose and split them. After that we look for pieces of stone that have the potential to have natural images. The price of these illustrated stones starts from 500 thousand to millions. Depending on the level of similarity,” he explained.
Collectors from all over Indonesia have collected Heri’s work. He has even repeatedly transacted with collectors from abroad.
“Alhamdulillah, through social media we can penetrate the international market,” he concluded. *Man
