Ponorogo Reog Golek Puppet was initiated by a Research Team from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of the Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo (UMPO) consisting of Dr. Sulton, M.Si, Betty Yulia Wulansari, M.Pd, Prima Sinta Utami, M.Pd continues to be developed.
Most recently, Ponorogo Reog Golek Puppet was shown with a new innovation, namely in English by Female Puppeteer Rahma Aini at the English Language Education Study Program Accreditation activity, Friday (01/17/2025).
“This was initially a collaboration between Mr. Sultan and Mrs. Barbie as lecturers from PC PAUD. Then an innovation emerged, namely the Ponorogo area puppet show but using English,” he explained.
The 7th semester student admitted that she needed extra time to practice & adjust the dialogue in English.
“This is a source of pride because I can try something new. The difficulty lies in the accent. The puppeteer himself usually uses a Javanese accent. Well, to match the Javanese accent with English, it will be thick. But I’m sure it can still be accepted,” he said.
Rahma hopes that the Wayang Golek Reog Ponorogo will continue to be developed so that it can become an educational medium, especially for PAUD students and generally for the entire community.
