Reog Ponorogo art continues at various international events, this time at the “Reog Ponorogo Art Festival” held by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Johor Bahru in the lobby of Plaza Angsana Mall Johor Bahru.
This Reog art performance was originally initiated by the Ponorogo Citizens Association (Pawargo) in Malaysia, as well as in celebration of its 7th anniversary.
This activity is also carried out by various Indonesian community organizations in Malaysia, including pencak silat colleges and the Communication of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Organization (KOMI).
All artists are Indonesian people in Johor who are members of these eight organizations. Apart from art performances, activities also include discussions about the history and development of Reog Ponorogo in Malaysia.
According to the Indonesian Consulate General, Sigit Suryantoro Widiyanto, this activity shows that cultural preservation is a collective responsibility, not just the Indonesian government.
He also expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian people in Johor who actively promote national culture, stating that culture is also a tool to unify the nation.
“The Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru will continue to collaborate with various parties to promote Indonesian culture throughout the working area of the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru,” said Sigit.
Present at this activity were YB Dato’ Samsol Bahri Bin Jamali ADUN Semarang Parliament Ayer Hitam, En Rahmat Md Noh Director of the Johor State Department of Culture, and En Lokman Junaidi Chair of UMNO Air Hitam Youth.
“Appreciation and support for this cultural activity, hope that this kind of activity can be carried out regularly,” concluded YB Dato Samsol Bahri Bin Jamali.
The Reog Ponorogo celebration succeeded in attracting the attention of not only the Indonesian people who came, but also visitors to Angsana Mall. Ptr
