East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa witnessed the Wayangperformance in celebration of the 78th Anniversary of East Java Province which was held at the District Square. Ponorogo, Sunday (19/11).

The event, which was also attended by the Regent of Ponorogo, Sugiri Sancoko, was the second point, out of a total of five points in the series of Wayang performances held on the occasion of the 78th Anniversary of East Java Province.

This Wayang performance was presented by Ki Rudiyanto from Blitar with the play Wahyu Manik Moyo. Meanwhile, Limbukan or jokes were performed by Cak Kirun and Cak Marwoto.

Governor Khofifah took the time to greet the thousands of people who attended while having a relaxed dialogue with Cak Kirun and Cak Marwoto.

In particular, he said, Wayang is not only performed to entertain. But it is full of moral and ethical messages in life. So, it is not surprising that Wayang was able to receive an award from UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. For this reason, efforts to preserve wayang must continue.

According to Khofifah, UNESCO’s recognition of Wayang is a proud achievement for Indonesia. This also places wayang in the right position as a powerful tool for promoting, preserving and understanding Indonesia’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

“Puppetry has become a global cultural icon and is a gateway to a deeper understanding of Indonesian culture,” he added. Adv/Man
