Ponorogo Becomes Part of the Indonesian Creative Cities Network

The Regency Government (Pemkab) has confirmed Ponorogo as part of Indonesia’s creative cities by holding Creative Week. Ponorogo Regency has been designated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) as one of Indonesia’s creative cities. This Ponorogo Creative Week event will be held from 24 to 28 October 2023 at Ponorogo Square.

“This event is a form of actualization of Ponorogo Regency as part of Indonesia’s creative city,” said Head of the Ponorogo Regency Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports Service (Disbudparpora), Judha Slamet Sarwo Edi.

This event was attended by 32 stands consisting of craft, fashion, arts and culture and culinary subsectors. It is hoped that this event will be able to encourage Ponorogo’s mission to become part of the world’s creative cities in the Unesco network in 2024. Judha said this Creative Week event also coincides with Creative Economy Day which falls on October 24.

“There are more than eight activities that will enliven this creative week, there are bazaars, batik competitions, culinary delights, pottery festivals, film festivals, and many more,” said Judha.

Ponorogo Creative Week was opened directly by Regent Sugiri Sancoko. On that occasion, the Regent said that this series of events could be a driving force for the economy to continue to rotate and have a positive impact on economic growth in Ponorogo.

“This is a form of our effort to create a thriving tourism ecosystem in Ponorogo,” said Regent Sugiri

Sugiri also emphasized the Ponorogo Regency Government’s commitment to holding more creative events in the future. With so many events, it can also encourage creative economy players to continue to innovate and adapt to current developments.

“We continue to encourage creative economy actors not to remain silent. So there will be an increase in transactions and spending, which in turn will encourage economic growth in Ponorogo,” concluded Regent Sugiri Sancoko. Ponorogo continues to show its active role in supporting creative industries and cultural riches, with the hope that this will raise its profile as an influential creative city. For your information, the Ponorogo Regency Government has sent a dossier containing detailed notes about Reyog arts and culture to Unesco representatives. In the future, in 2024, Reyog Ponorogo has the potential to be designated as a Unesco intangible cultural heritage. Adv/Ptr
