Reog Ponorogo art performed by the Brawijaya University Reyog group appeared stunning in front of the diplomatic corps and the Thai public. The theme is Hastabrata which tells the concept of policy and leadership wisdom in Javanese culture.
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Bangkok held an Indonesian Cultural Night event which took place at the Pic-Ganesha Theater, Siam Square, Bangkok, Thailand, Sunday (17/09/2023) evening.
The audience’s admiration was visible from every corner of the performance theater space, with very loud applause and cheers from the audience at the end of the Reog Ponorogo performance.
“Indonesian Cultural Night 2023 is an effort to showcase various Indonesian cultures, including Reog Ponorogo, which has never been performed in Thailand. “It is hoped that the relationship between the exchange of cultural performances between Indonesia and Thailand will continue to increase,” said the Education and Cultural Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, Achmad Wicaksono in a written statement reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Tuesday.
According to him, apart from the corps and diplomatic staff, a number of business people, academics, art lovers, journalists and students from various universities in Thailand were amazed by the art of Reog Ponorogo.
Meanwhile, the secretary of Brawijaya University, Tri Bayu Nugroho, explained that Reog Ponorogo was born when the Majapahit Kingdom expanded its power in the archipelago and would continue to be preserved for the younger generation in East Java.
“We bring East Javanese dances to the heart of Thailand, Bangkok to the fullest so that Thai people will get to know East Javanese culture better,” explained Tri.
This activity is part of the promotion of the Trade, Tourism, Investment and Cultural Forum which is held by the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok in an integrated and sustainable manner in an effort to strengthen cooperation in various fields with Thailand. Adv/Man
