The Reog Monument and Ponorogo Museum (MRMP) will present the history of Ponorogo

The history of Ponorogo Regency can be found in the Reog Monument and Ponorogo Museum (MRMP). Starting from the prehistoric period, the period of Hindu-Buddhist influence, the period of Islamic influence, the pre-independence period, to the reform era. The development of civilization from time to time is to provide education to museum visitors about the history of Ponorogo.

“We don’t display collections in museums carelessly. “We have to go through research, we have a team of curators to show the development of human civilization from time to time,” said Head of the Ponorogo Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports Service (Disbudparpora) Judha Slamet Sarwo Edi. (7/9/2023).

The DPR RI Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) team that visited Ponorogo, on August 19, included the Chair of the Indonesian Museum Association (AMI) Putu Supadma Rudana and lecturer at the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Surakarta, Empu Basuki Teguh Yuwono. Both expressed their interest in the construction of the MRMP. “Incidentally, both of them will visit a number of countries in Europe this September to take an inventory of artifacts originating from Indonesia. “If there are any artifacts from Ponorogo, we will inform you,” explained Judha.

Such as the discovery of prehistoric objects from the Mesolithic or Middle Stone Age in the Goa Lawa area, Sampung District, Ponorogo, which is known as Sampung Bone Culture. L.J.C.van Es brought these archaeological objects to the Netherlands in 1928. “When ancient human cultures lived in caves, most of their tools came from bones,” he explained.

Judha said, the history of civilization during the period of Hindu-Buddhist influence and the influence of Islam was also shown in MRMP. The glorious era of the Majapahit and Mataram Kingdoms has its own history in Ponorogo. Without exception, legends accompany the formation of Reog Ponorogo art. “Artifacts and art objects that tell the history of Ponorogo and the development of reog over time will undergo research before filling the museum collection,” he concluded.*png.go.
