Larung Sesaji Telaga ngebel, an expression of community gratitude to God Almighty

The indigenous people of Ngebel Village, Ponorogo, every 1 Suro hold a ritual ceremony of Larung Sesaji and Praying at Ngebel Lake. Larung Sesaji have a spiritual meaning for the people on the slopes of Mount Wilis. The larungan tradition is part of the expression of the people’s gratitude for the pleasures that have been given by God Almighty. Previously, there was also a prayer together.

The tradition of Larung Sesaji has been around for many years. Where the Ngebel indigenous people make a large tumpeng, to be floated and then drowned in the middle of the lake.

Before being floated, the tumpeng is also paraded around the lake. There is not only one tumpeng, but 4 tumpeng. Where later the three tumpeng that are not floated will be piled up or become a bone of contention for everyone.

Larungan is a tradition, then a form of prayer is realized with this tradition of Larung Sesaji.

“This is part of maintaining tradition, in addition to showing how grateful we are to God, for all the blessings given,” said Sugiri Sancoko, Ponorogo Regent.

He continued, the Regent added that we are bringing up this tradition. The tumpeng in purak will be added later,” he concluded.

In addition to the tumpeng that was spread out, there were also several tumpeng that were purged or fought over by the residents. Some people believe that getting purified fruits or vegetables can bring blessings.
