Youth Reog Festival Efforts to Regenerate Cultural Heritage

The Ponorogo Regency Government continues to strive to maintain the existence of Reog art as the original cultural heritage of Ponorogo.

To maintain the existence and regeneration of the Reog Arts, a number of events continue to be held, including the Youth Reog Festival (FRR).

The festival was attended by 19 youth reog groups at the junior high school level (SMP) and was held in the Grebeg Suro series and the 527th Anniversary of Ponorogo Regency.

Ponorogo Regent Sugiri Sancoko while watching FRR on the Aloon-Aloon main stage in Ponorogo City said FRR was an effort to transmit Reog Ponorogo art to the younger generation. So that in the future it will not only be guarding, playing, but also having the spirit at all age levels.

“So the transmission is complete, good spirit, quality, so that the energy can have a good relay,” he said, Tuesday (11/07/2022).

Efforts to regenerate Reog Ponorogo for the younger generation are also carried out by holding the Reog Children’s Festival (FRA), and Reog Wayang Golek which tells about the origins of this art, targeting children aged 1 to 12 years.

“So to become an eternal Reog requires concrete steps. This is one of them, and I appreciate the teenagers who have looked cool, both from their movements and dances, which are not inferior to senior Reog dancers,” he said.

As a follow-up to Reog Ponorogo being included in Unesco’s list of Incredible Cultural Heritage (ICH) proposals which will be held next year, the Regent admitted that this festival was to answer the issue of Reog extinction in Ponorogo land. “When it has been designated by Unesco as an intangible cultural heritage, we must resolve the questionable problems regarding extinction. And this is one of our efforts to answer that. We will multiply events and strengthen the transmission relay, and strengthen quality, and involve all parties to contribute part,” he concluded. Adv/Man
