South Sumatra Holds Reog Festival Introducing Archipelago’s Cultural Wealth

The Reog Ponorogo Festival and the Kuda Lumping which were held at Graha Budaya, Sriwijaya Cultural Park, Jakabaring Palembang, Sunday (18/6/2023).

Dozens of participants from 7 districts/cities in South Sumatra and 2 participants from Lampung and Jambi Provinces participated. This event is a manifestation of South Sumatra’s openness to the diversity of Indonesian arts, and aims to introduce the younger generation to Indonesia’s culture.

“The participants were 25 associations in 7 regencies throughout South Sumatra plus two neighboring provinces of Lampung and Jambi. Thank God there was quite a lot of interest,” said the Head of the South Sumatra Culture and Tourism Office, Aufa Syahrizal.

At the opening of the Reog Ponorogo and Kuda Lumping Festival, it was marked by the beating of the gong by Herman Deru, which was attended by 25 participants in the Reog and Kuda Lumping arts.

“The reception was very extraordinary from the people of South Sumatra. Currently we are fighting for reog that Reog Ponorogo goes to UNESCO, where Reog belongs to Indonesia,” explained the Deputy Regent of Ponorogo, Lisdyarita when he saw the opening of the Reog Ponorogo Festival and Kuda Lumping in Palembang.

In addition, according to Deputy Regent Lisdyarita, adding that on the other hand we are currently building a 126 meter high Reog monument and a civilization museum. “At the Reog monument and this museum of civilization, our children and grandchildren will later understand the existence and history of Reog Ponorogo, in the future. Thank you to the Governor of South Sumatra for accepting us and supporting us to preserve Reog Ponorogo,” concluded Lisdyarita. Adv/Ptr
