
Jathil Lanang reappeared in the Tumpak Landep heritage procession, although it was temporarily extinct from the development of Reog Ponorogo art on Saturday (03/06/2023).
Tumpak Landep, an activity held by the kris heritage lovers community, two Jathil Lanang were seen dancing to the accompaniment of the Reog gamelan. These two male Jathil are the last descendants who still maintain the art of Jathil Lanang in Ponorogo.
Agung Priyanto, one of the Jathil Lanang dancers said, as a person who still defends the existence of Jathil Lanang in Ponorogo, he requested that the stigma attached to Jathil Lanang should not be re-cultured, jathil Lanang is an old art that was born in Reog Ponorogo, and shifted with the development of Female Jathil as a form of emancipation of women.
“At this time, Jathil Lanang is an art, we, the perpetrators of Jathil Lanang at that time, are brought back in this activity, to remind the history of Reog to the current generation, that there used to be Jathil that was played by men. It’s not that the youths are skilled Reog lovers. dancing and maintaining the existence of this art,” he said, Saturday (06/03/2023)
Regent of Ponorogo Sugiri Sancoko who was present at the activities of the Tumpak Landep heritage jamasan held by the Aji Wengker community in the Sanana Joglo Paju said that the Tumpak Landep Jamasan heritage has existed since long ago even before the mataraman kingdom of Islam. Where at that time the jamasan procession was performed regularly every year.
