Ponorogo Became the First UCCN Proposal Selection

Ponorogo Regent Sugiri Sancoko accompanied by assistant members and focal points when explaining the Dossier of UCCN Ponorogo before the selection committee.

The Dossier submission for the Unesco Creative City Network (UCCN) was submitted to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) on May 15, Ponorogo Regency officially advanced to the selection stage for submitting world creative cities conducted by the National Selection Committee (Panselnas) at the Sapta Pesona Building Kemenparekraf RI, Friday (26/05/2023).

Ponorogo Regent Sugiri Sancoko, accompanied by 4 assistance teams and focal points, was the first to present the Dossier for the UCCN proposal for the City of Craft and Folk Arts category, followed by the Regencies of Bantul, Bitung, Surakarta, Salatiga and Depok.

The Deputy for Development of Destinations and Infrastructure of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Francis Xavier Teguh, asked the Panel to be objective in the assessment given.

“The Dossier given from the 6 districts of the city are all good. We also hope that the Selection Committee will be objective. So that in giving an assessment based on facts and data,” said the person in charge of implementing this activity.

Ponorogo Regent Sugiri Sancoko revealed, in the Dossier clarification and discussion sessions, the South Sumatra Committee raised many questions about efforts to maintain what was in Dossier, the impact of REOG on economic growth, SDGs correlation, and supporting budgets, as well as other supports.

“Optimism is not seen by how I explain it, judging from my presentation, maybe it’s not very good, but people can feel what Reog is like, wherever there is Reog, it even becomes a cultural inspiration then Reog is shown throughout the area which invites many traders and that’s cool. Making the district peaceful and all groups willing to accept Reog and trying to support Reog, if you see that the committee will definitely judge from concrete things like that,” he concluded.
