Ponorogo Creative Festival Encourages Creative Economy Stretching

Ponorogo Regency Government continues to make efforts to prosper creative economy actors in Ponorogo Regency.

After successfully holding the Aloon-Aloon Night Market, the District Government is holding another festival, the Ponorogo Creative Festival (PCF), which will be held from 23 to 27 May 2023.

Head of Disparbud Ponorogo Judha Slamet Sarwo Edi said. The PCF activity is in order to prove that Ponorogo is indeed worthy of being a creative city in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) network.

“Apart from Reyog performing arts, we also have craft or creative economy and gastronomy with culturally culinary delights in Ponorogo,” he said, Wednesday (17/05/2023).

The Ponorogo Creative Festival is an effort by the Ponorogo district government to strengthen its position in the Unesco creative city submission. It is known that currently Ponorogo is competing with Solo and Bantul, in its proposal to Unesco to become a creative city in the Craft and Folk Arts category.

“Therefore, we prove it by holding PCF which displays performing arts, craft and gastronomy exhibitions related to creative cities,” he said.

He said that in the PCF event he would invite artists from other districts and cities, have folk performing arts similar to Reyog Ponorogo, but the actualization is different. As in Wonosobo, Temanggung, Wonogiri, Blitar, Blora and Ngawi Regencies.

”Several regencies have Reyog performing arts, but the appearance is different, and the props are not the same. There are figures of tigers, jathil and ganong,” he said.

In the Ponorogo Creative Festival event, several performing arts from other districts that have similarities will be invited to perform. We see it not as a competitor, but as a cultural wealth owned by the Indonesian nation.

”Therefore we take the theme Reyog Inspiring Indonesia in folk performing arts. Also, after we interviewed the activists, it turned out that they were inspired by Reyog. It was proven during the Mataram era with the story of Surya Ngalam version. Meanwhile, in the Mataram Reyog era, it already existed, with evidence that it was written in Serat Centini, meaning that the original Ponorogo art was very old,” he explained.

He hopes that the presence of PCF can trigger and stimulate the wheels of the community’s economy to re-cycle. By creating, packaging and marketing the potential of performing arts which have many generations, such as crafts and gastronomy. ”This PCF is for promotional media for Ponorogo as a creative city for performing arts or a creative economy. ” he concluded. adv/man
