Islamic Youth Organizations in Ponorogo Use Jaranan Arts for Da’wah Media

Anshor youths are playing the jaranan art during the One Century Nahdatul Ulama event in Ponorogo.

The creativity of the Ponorogo people in maintaining their arts never stops. As was done by the Islamic youth organization GP Anshor, Ponorogo Regency.

By using Jaranan art, the young generation of Nahdatul Ulama Muslims make it a medium for religious propaganda.

The art, which is named “Brandal Lokajaya”, is performed by the Ponorogo Branch of the Ansor Youth Movement. This art, which is part of the Reog art, is played to tell the story of the struggle of the saints in Java in spreading Islam.

One of the performers of the Jaranan Brandal Lokajaya Art, Eko Prayoga, admitted that this art was pioneered by Gus Nur Salam. This art is used to preach and introduce the uniqueness of Islam in society.

“We are here not only singing Javanese style, but also using sholawat to the Prophet Muhammad SAW, and this is us fighting the stigma of the public view that jaranan is mystical and haunted, and thank God many people like it,” he concluded. Adv/Man
